Academy of Learning was founded in 1987 as an international organization specializing in computer and business skills training for adult learners. More than 90 campuses are now open across Canada, plus 13 centres internationally. Academy of Learning has taught over one million training courses across Canada, and has over 500,000 graduates working in their chosen careers. The Vancouver Downtown Academy of Learning campus has been operating since 1990.

At Academy of Learning, we attribute this growth to our success in identifying the gap between the formal education available and the realities of the working world. We fulfill the needs of learners by developing customized programs for each student while meeting the requirements for convenient and effective training at an affordable cost.

The Academy of Learning system offers a unique approach to learning for its students, shifting away from teaching in the traditional lecture format to an on-site, facilitated, learning-by-doing method. This unique approach to training allows Academy of Learning to offer not only short, effective certificate courses but also comprehensive vocational diploma programs. This systematic method of learning allows students to schedule their training sessions around existing commitments. Course enrolment is continuous, so that participants can begin learning immediately.

Instruction is primarily through the Integrated Learning™ System (“ILS”), involving audio-visual presentation, proprietary course books and competency-based exams, all prepared under the direction of the Academy of Learning Course Development staff. Trained Facilitators are on-site at all times, providing individual assistance to students.

Many students are able to obtain work in their area of training before they graduate because of the core skills obtained and their intent to continue their studies (using our flexible scheduling) and to graduate while employed.
